NEW MEXICO (KRQE) - Due to an aging workforce, fewer graduates, and the rapid evolution of vehicle technology, there is a shortage of car mechanics in the state. However, the New Mexico Automotive Dealers Association is looking to change that.

The New Mexico Broadcasters Association, on behalf of KRQE Media Group, partnered with the dealers association to award $10,000 worth of scholarships to five worthy recipients.

Jack Schliening, who works at Honda Subaru of Santa Fe, received a check for $2,000.

Bryan Marquez-Bustamante of Quality Buick GMC in Albuquerque was also given $2,000.

Coleton Kerwin of Rich Ford in Albuquerque was also presented with his scholarship check.

The other two winners are Elixandro Vidales of Amigo Auto Group in Gallup and Rodrigo Villalobos Martinez of Tate Branch Auto Group in Hobbs.

The winners were nominated by their employers, and a drawing was held for the five winners. These scholarships will be used to defray the cost of attending automotive technical school community colleges.
